Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Fredericksburg public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Frederick Road Extension alignment across Waldorf Astoria site
The council approved a new conceptual route for the future arterial road across the 405 Goehmann Lane property, swapping the old Thoroughfare Plan line for one that fits the resort development. Neighbors raised concerns about floodplain fill, drainage into Barron Creek, curves near Goehmann Lane, and safety and turn lanes. Final terms come in the annexation and development agreement expected within about 60 days.
Friendship Lane Traffic Signal vs. Turn Lane
A 2025 study found Creek Street and Friendship Lane failing at level of service F. Two signals would cost about $1 million; Creek Street alone is roughly $600,000. Council is considering using reserves, possibly with school district partnership.
Old San Antonio Road Bridge Closure
Flood-damaged bridges across the county — most notably on Old San Antonio Road — will be closed for a long while because the county lacks funds to rebuild, forcing detours through Cane City or Highway 87. The city is rolling up damage reports to the state for possible FEMA help.
Lower speed limit on North Milam Street
The speed limit on North Milam between West Mulberry and West Main drops from 40 to 35 mph, based on TxDOT's measured traffic speeds.
Frederick Road thoroughfare alignment and Goehmann Lane development
A 20-year-old plan routes an arterial roadway (a Friendship Lane extension) through land near Goehmann Lane. The developer wanted to build without the road and asked for an alternate route; after no alternate was proposed, the council denied the plat. Neighbors on Goehmann Lane fear losing land and historic properties if the route shifts their way.
